Snow is predicted for the weekend in the Northeast and there is a prediction for rain mixed with snow in our area. We haven’t even had the frost on the pumpkin yet! The leaves haven’t fallen off the trees! Madness!
In the meantime, here is a bit of what has been happening this week:
- FDA Gets Kinda Hip – While they haven’t reached the level of welcomed. Nice going FDA.
- FDA Approves Anti-Seizure Medication – On October 21, the agency approved Onfi (clobazam) to be used as an add-on therapy for seizures associated with a severe form of epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. The condition is rare, affecting under 200,000 people, which allowed for the drug to be granted orphan drug designation by the FDA. Onfi is manufactured by Catalent Pharma Solutions for Lundbeck, Inc.
- First Generic of Zyprexa Approved – This week the agency also announced approval of the first generic version of Zyprexa (olanzapine) for the treatment of schizophrenia and for bipolar. In the announcement, FDA also included a link to a page it has developed for consumers on the role of generic drugs.
That’s it for me this week. Have a great weekend. For those in the northeast, enjoy a snowball fight while getting ready for Trick or Treating….
(Note: After publication, this posting was amended to correct a typo of the generic name of Onfi).
